ITQ is a unique qualification that can be tailored to meet an individual's needs. For example, if an employee uses a high level of word processing skills but rarely uses spreadsheets, the ITQ can be tailored so that the employee achieves the word processing unit at level 2 and spreadsheet at level 1, but still achieves an overall ITQ at level 2.
Also, the ITQ can mix-and-match the traditional office IT skills with bespoke software. This means that if an organisation runs a proprietary programme or system for managing client data, logistics, statistics and analysis, it too can be incorporated alongside the usual word processing, spreadsheet etc. units.
ITQ is primarily aimed at IT users and not professional IT staff such as engineers and developers. In the main, it is gained in the workplace and offered at levels 1, 2 and 3 (Scottish Vocational Qualification in Using IT).
