How to Get Started

The flexibility of the ITQ means that it is suitable for every organisation. To gain the most from any programme it may be useful to consider the following steps:

What do you want to achieve?

Do you need to improve the IT skills across the company or do you need to address individual employee's skills? The ITQ can facilitate both.

A programme that is linked to the strategic direction of the organisation is more likely to have long-term sustainability and success, some considerations:

  • Do you need to update your business processes?
  • Are there any plans to introduce any new software?
  • Are there any software/hardware that could make your organisation's processes more efficient?
  • What skills will deliver the most benefit or return on investment?

Who should be included in an ITQ

The next stage is to identify who to include in your programme

  • Are some staff just ‘getting by' with their IT skills or could the business processes they are involved in be more efficient and professional with some updating of their IT skills?
  • Do you need to conduct a training needs analysis of the current skills within the organisation against what skills your business needs both now and in the future?
  • If you are considering using Train to Gain funding, an organisational Training Needs Analysis will be conducted on your behalf. http://www.traintogain.gov.uk/
  • Agree a training programme that pinpoints and meets your company's needs
  • Review, monitor and evaluate your programme to ensure it is meeting your needs
