Delivering an ITQ

The ITQ website offers extensive information on delivering an ITQ. The purpose of this section is not to duplicate information but to share the delivery methods that have been found to be useful.

There are many different delivery methods for the ITQ. This is one of the key strengths of the ITQ, however it can also provide challenges in designing the best programme from an employee, employer and provider perspective.

An important consideration before designing any delivery programme is to remember that the ITQ is an assessment qualification, that may or may not involve delivery of learning. You may wish to consider the following models:

  • Work based Assessment
  • Blended Sessions followed by assessment in the workplace
  • Distance Learning & assessment in the workplace
  • VRQ to ITQ

Work based Assessment

This model is based on assessment of current IT skills in the workplace. The ITQ is achieved through providing a portfolio of evidence collected through work based activities and collected in a paper or electronic portfolio.

Blended Sessions

This delivery model is a combination of  workplace assessment and taught learning sessions. There are a number of ways learning sessions could be managed.

  • Group sessions, where a number of employees are taught skills gaps,
  • Drop in sessions, where employees can ‘drop in' to access support and specific learning activities to address their needs. (see Training Resources section)
  • Group and drop in sessions could be offered at the main centre if there are not sufficient numbers within an organisation to demand a group or drop in session.

Distance Learning & assessment in the workplace

Candidates are offered access to distant learning support and materials, this could be via a Virtual Learning Environment, paper based activities or textbooks.

VRQ to ITQ

Candidates that have already achieved a vocational qualification can accredit the appropriate level and relevant modules against their ITQ. However, for the mandatory unit simulated activities cannot be used. Cross mapping of qualifications/modules can be checked with the relevant awarding body.
